Exploring Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice'

A bare, empty room. A locked door and a pile of scripts. A group of reluctant actors are trying to rehearse
Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice'. Through performance, discussion, and heated argument they attempt
to find contemporary meaning in a four hundred year old play.

But who are the actors? Why are they locked in the room? And who are the demanding audience they are going to
be performing for?

Working through the key scenes of 'The Merchant of Venice' this intriguing drama will explore the themes of
Shakespeare's classic text with a specific focus on money and debt.

Suitable for Yr 9-13 English and Drama students.
