Artistic Policy: Secondary Principles |
| |
|

Identity:
Solent Peoples Theatre is an independent theatre company. Wherever possible, and appropriate, we will work
in partnership with both statutory and non-statutory organisations in the pursuit of mutually agreed goals.
However, we are not a 'theatre company for hire', a 'service provider' or an 'artists employment agency'.
Education and Participation:
Education is an implicit aspect of all of our work and as such no distinction is made between the pedagogic and
artistic work of the company. This applies equally to the distinctions often made between participatory and
performance based work.
Technology:
Whenever appropriate the company will seek to exploit new technologies with particular emphasis on those with
potential to be used in a participatory context.
Umbrella Project:
In order to facilitate the development of the company's artistic identity, and to aid strategic planning, the artistic
programme for each three year period will be located within the auspices of an umbrella project. Together with the key
principles of the artistic policy, the theme of the 'umbrella project' will provide the commissioning rationale for each
artistic
season. Each composite umbrella project will be organised into strands, each of which will be targeted at a
specific audience.
In turn each strand will comprise of a number of individual projects spread out over the course of
the three years.
For example:

|
Whilst it is envisaged that the bulk of the company's work will fall within the parameters of an umbrella project, this does not preclude other work being undertaken where appropriate.
